Breastfeeding Associated with Smarter Kids


Breastfeeding exclusively during the first year of life has been associated with an increase in a child’s intelligence by first grade, a large randomized trial in Belarus found.

What? No mention of the health benefits? I can't speak for the smarter thing... I think my kids are too young to determine their IQ. But, from experience I can tell you that my breast-fed daughters seem to have stronger immune systems than their peers. When the whole class gets a cold, my daughters don't get it or are through with it days before the others. The general health of my kids and saving on the medicial bills are definitely strong motivator. Oh, and the possibility that they'll beat out the competition on the SAT test.
